Yin Yang Pendants
Many jewelry pieces tell a story, from the artist, or as a depiction of a legend told.
We owe our Yin Yang pendant inspiration to a past customers who knocked on our doors in the figurative sense. His request was to mold two custom inlay pieces.
The designs included:
- A 14 karat yellow gold, gemstone inlays for him
- A 14 karat white gold pendant, with gemstone inlays for his wife
Today, the design forms a basis from which to build our custom jewelry. We now incorporate yin yang pendants with noble metals and gemstone combinations – which provide a very distinct look.
These pendants are a great gift item, depicting our universal interdependence on love, and that opposites attract. The symbol holds diverse meanings to many – including the complex nature of our beings.

Choosing your gemstone
Every pendant here is built from two sides, and the pairing is what gives the piece its character. The most popular is black onyx against mother of pearl, a deep black meeting a soft iridescent white. Black onyx is also paired with opal, red jasper, tiger's eye and howlite for a warmer or more unusual look. In the gold pieces, turquoise and lapis are cut into inlay, and gaspeite brings a bright apple green that is rare in jewelry. Sizes, measurements and chains
Yin yang pendants are made in two dimensions, a large and a petite, and the measurements are listed on every product page so you can compare the two before you order. The floating bail lets the pendant turn as you wear it, so the gemstone face or the etched metal face can sit outward, and it keeps the piece close to the neckline instead of hanging flat. Chains are sold separately, which means you can match the length and the weight of the chain to the pendant and to the way you like to wear it.
Giving a yin yang pendant
The symbol does a particular kind of work as a gift, because it is about two things belonging together. The first yin yang pieces made here were a matched pair, one in yellow gold and one in white gold, for a husband and wife, and pairs are still a natural fit. A single pendant works as an anniversary or birthday gift, a wedding or engagement present, or a piece for someone who likes jewelry with meaning behind it. Because the design is two sided, it never looks quite the same twice.
Caring for gemstone inlay
These pendants bring together stones of very different hardness in one piece. Black onyx, tiger's eye and red jasper belong to the quartz family and take everyday wear well. Mother of pearl, opal, turquoise and howlite are considerably softer, so they should be kept away from perfume, hairspray, household cleaners and ultrasonic cleaners. Wipe any of them with a soft dry cloth after wearing, and store the pendant on its own so a harder stone cannot scratch the surface. A jeweler's polishing cloth will bring the metal face back to a shine.
Sterling silver or 14kt gold
The sterling silver pendants start at $520 and the 14kt gold pieces begin around $2,250, and the difference is more than the metal. Silver suits a piece you want to wear every day, and it takes a bright, cool white finish. Gold carries more weight in the hand, holds a warmer color, and is the version that tends to get passed down. Both are solid metal, never plated. If you want the look of white gold at a different price, palladium and platinum are both available on request.
